Special World

Special World is the 2nd secret World in SMW. It's World 9 and it features some of the most difficult stages in the game. On the Special World map "SPECIAL" is spelled out in big white stars. This world is made up of 8 levels, all that have names in surfer slang, these include "Gnarly, Tubular, Way Cool, Awesome, Groovy, Mondo, Outrageous and Funky". There are 2 Star Road exits as well. If you take the 2nd Star Road exit you will be dropped off at Yoshi's House in Yoshi's Island and the game will have an Autumn pallete, as well as Mario mask wearing Koopas, jack-o-lanterns instead of Piranha Plants, gray and different shaped Pokeys, and Pidgits instead of Bullet Bills. These new changes don't change gameplay, the only change is that all of the green Koopa's shells change color so rarer shells are more abundent. This effect is reversible by beating the last level, "Funky", in the Special World again. If the music in this world is left long enough, the original Super Mario Bros. theme will begin to play.

You can view the Special World passed palette in Lunar Magic by going to View > Special World Passed. The same command is identical in the level editor mode in order to show what Special World passed enemies look like.
