[edit] Levels

Being a remake of Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros DX, contains levels that are mostly identical to the original. However, two new worlds, Worlds 9 and 0, have been added, resulting in 40 total levels as opposed to the original's 32 total levels.

[edit] Overworld

The original Super Mario Bros. did not have an overworld, so a new overworld has been created for this hack. Warp Zones could not be implemented exactly as they were in the original, so they are actually secret exits that lead to shortcuts on the overworld.

[edit] Graphics

This hack's graphics are mostly from Super Mario Bros. 3 in Super-Mario All-Stars. However, a few graphics are ripped from other SNES games, such as the waterfall cave background from Yoshi's Island.

[edit] Technical

The game features a few technical modifications to make it feel more like a remake. For example, Goombas die after a single hit rather than having carryable properties, and the Level Names hack is implemented to replicate a similar feature in Super Mario Bros.

[edit] Plot

Super Mario Bros DX's plot is, as one would expect, the same as the original: Bowser has kidnapped Princess Peach, and it's up to Mario and Luigi to travel to Bowser's Castle and rescue the princess.

[edit] Reception

Comments on Super Mario Bros DX has been mostly positive, and the addition of two new worlds has been praised. The fact that it's a remake, though, means that most of its level design and plot can't be commented on, and its rating on SMW Central has stayed around 8.
