Talk:Main Page
From SMWiki
Everyone give a round of applause to Tatrion for being on top of things and reverting lots of vandalism! --Farm Fresh 07:19, 17 April 2008 (MST)
Shouldn't we be using the User: namespace for users so they don't get confused with actual content pages? - Joshua 12:46, 15 April 2007 (MST)
Is that really a problem? Besides, if one wants to read about FuSoYa, the article name is "FuSoYa", not "User:FuSoYa" (as he's not a SMWiki member). Why should the name of FuSoYa's article be any different from any other person's? --Smallhacker 13:23, 15 April 2007 (MST)

Who fixed the page so fast?
Who?
- Well, it looks like we were hit with our first real vandal. It's a big side effect to wikis. As long as someone is online, they can fix pages real "fast" by reverting, although admins have a special alternative to make it even easier for them. - Joshua 06:28, 22 April 2007 (MST)
- Yeah, that is called protecting the pages and allowing only trusted people to edit. From what I can tell, the best approach would be to protect the pages and then create a special user group that can only edit the pages or maybe change the privileges of all users and simply allow the special group (which from what I can tell should be the already trusted network of people). - Lordlazer 10:08, 22 April 2007 (EST)
- Not all IPs or newbies are bad. Plus I don't see how you could weed out the trolls before they edit. - Joshua 15:03, 22 April 2007 (MST)
- How about the global IP block? The vandalism bad guy's IP is always 75.26.*.*(adsl-75-26-***-***.dsl.scrm01.sbcglobal.net).133.205.53.218 02:49, 24 April 2007 (MST)

- If you're going to block new users from posting, somebody's going to have to be on top of deciding who's a troll and who's not, which probably isn't the best way. I'd really recommend reading the "Super Mario World (SMAS)... also bots" post a little further down. The user's obviously a bot, nobody would take the time to make all those links. -Farm Fresh 11:40, 17 March 2008 (MST)
Links
- The Mushroom Kingdom (I don't know how we could top this resource, or why we should even try...)
I don't know if we should have an External Links section to other Mario resources on this wiki, but why not? The above appears to be a great Mario resource... - Lordlazer
Palettes
Could someone add a link to the slowly expanding Palettes category? Thanks! *hugs in non-gay way* By the way, is there a way to make the links in the category go to an anchor, for instance [[Magikoopa#Palette | Magikoopa]] would make this: Magikoopa - Lordlazer
- Category:Palettes - Joshua 06:22, 18 May 2007 (MST)
- I was hoping for it to go on the main page, not in the discussion... >_> heh - Lordlazer
New Main Page Layout
- Conversation copied from User talk:Joshua/Main Page Remake
I personally think that it looks very good, but it is rather empty. Maybe add a "Today's Feature Article", or a links section to fill in the empty space, but other then that it is great. - Matrik 17:34, 30 May 2007 (EST)
- Yeah, as I've said the layout is great, but it feels kind of empty. Either an image or an article (like you suggested) would be great. Perhaps even events? Check this wiki out to see an example of a really cool main page! ^_^ - Lordlazer
- We don't have enough articles of decent size yet to keep a featured article segment going for very long. You don't want to get ahead of yourself there. That's why I suggested images and different colors and such... Two images on the side can help a bit, here is another wiki main page I did a while ago. - Joshua 17:07, 30 May 2007 (MST)
- Also, it'll feel less empty when this becomes the 'Super Mario Wiki' instead of 'Super Mario World Wiki', since we're supposedly having many Centrals... - Lordlazer

Alright, I added colors based off of the four used in the Super Mario World title, although I'm a little bit worried that they may be too bright. If we had large faded pictures in each of the boxes, in some sort of crisscross pattern maybe, it could look less empty. Maybe a Super Mushroom in the red, a Fire Flower in the green, a Star in the yellow, and a Feather in the blue. - Joshua 19:30, 30 May 2007 (MST)
- Sounds like a good idea. Also, what if on the sides of the table of contents were picture links to the other Super Mario Centrals? - Lordlazer
- Hmmm... the size of the empty space seems to vary quite a bit for different screen resolutions. - Joshua 05:56, 31 May 2007 (MST)
- Oh yeah, I forgot about that. Then no worries, it is fine as it is. It just needs the GFX you mentioned, instead of the colors. I forgot that it changes upon resolution. As for me I have 1440x900 (I think), so yeah...just ignore my previous comment about the extra space. ^_^ - Lordlazer
- I added a header to help fill in some of the white, but I don't have the expertise or the admin privileges nessecary to make background images for the templates, so this is as far as I can go. - Joshua 08:24, 31 May 2007 (MST)

Directional Coins
I added two new items, Directional Coins and Key. Can someone put them in the Items catagory? --AtomicShroom
- Did it for ya! All you have to do is do [[Category:NAME]] (whereas 'NAME' was Items in this case). ^_^ - Lordlazer
- Thx! I really enjoy writing down information here when I'm bored. --AtomicShroom

Hack Name
Can somebody delete the page, [deleted]? I made a new page with the right name. Thanks!
Could Someone Delete This?
Could someone get rid of the page "BetaZeldaman's Zelda Coalition Profile"? I screwed up when making my profile and made an interior link.
Arrangement
How about arranging the lists of items in abc order?
Super Mario World (SMAS)… also bots
I don't know what to do with the Super Mario World (SMAS) article. I'm assuming that's not exactly what you had in mind for that page. I highly recommend you install the ConfirmEdit extension to either keep bots from posting (recommended) or make it so you have to be part of a certain group to post links in articles (which would mean, if the extension would have been installed, I wouldn't have been able to post this link). --Cleveland Rock 14:48, 6 November 2007 (MST)
