Torpedo Ted is an underwater enemy from Super Mario World

[edit] General Information

Torpedo Ted is a cousin of Bullet Bill and Banzai Bill. Physically, it combines characteristics of the two, appearing as a black torpedo with eyes, a grinning mouth, and arms jutting out its sides. There is a propeller on its back which drives it forward. Torpedo Teds are launched by gloved mechanical hands from square launchers marked with a skull and crossbones. Unlike the bullets, Torpedo Ted will harm Mario if he tries to land on it from above.

Torpedo Teds only appear in one level in Super Mario World, Soda Lake, but are often used in underwater environments in hacks.

[edit] Hacking Information

Torpedo Ted is only usable with the underwater sprite set. (GX 06) Torpedo Teds do not require sprite buoyancy in order to swim. In fact, Torpedo Teds don't even have to be used in water. They can be launched out of water, where they fly forward through the sky. Mario can spin jump them to ride them in the open air. Interestingly, Torpedo Teds move at only half speed when they're traveling to the left.
