[edit] Mannerisms and Personality
- Forum Posting
Lordlazer may be considered a perfectionist in many ways, thus the reason he has a small post-count compared to others. It is rare that he makes a pointless post (or what he calls a "standard user" post), because he strives to have a significant purpose for each one. With such a mentality, many have pointed out his errors - mainly typos - to what he believes was/is an attempt to make him lose respect for himself; however, he has come to terms with his mistakes. Although he is a perfectionist, he might be called an optimist at the same time due to how he accepts his flaws...though don't misinterpret his acceptance as a means of ignorance/arrogance, he constantly endeavors to fix these flaws - a task that will never be complete.
[edit] Gaming History
For those who are actually curious about how Lordlazer came to be what he is now...
[edit] His thirst for Creativity
The first time he heard of emulation (he was around 12 years old?), he was quite confused, as likely anyone would be that had never heard of emulation. At first he thought emulation only pertained to video games and was a fancy word for playing video games on a computer, it took about a year before he realized what emulation actually meant. You might be thinking that Lordlazer was slow at learning (compared to others his age, already learning C++, etc), but rather it was the social network that he was connected with (neighbors, and more importantly, family).
Lordlazer would be surprised if this wasn’t how it was for most gamers back in the day. Although his friends were gamers, his family seemed to keep their distance from such interests of his. Sure, they’d buy him games (until he could afford them himself), but to actually play a game with him was asking too much of them. As for the majority of Lordlazer's friends, they simply wanted to play them, unlike himself who wanted to exercise my imagination.
His one friend was like the brother he never had and practically lived over at Lordlazer's house. He used to come over after school day after day at such a norm that Lordlazer always left the front door unlocked for him to simply walk in. They would play across their LAN and use the internet to play many of what are today considered classics – Ultimate Doom, Doom II, Warcraft II, Starcraft, Quake, to name a few. For a long time they simply played Doom II and that Lordlazer believe poked a lot of curiosity into him, stumbling across the “Wad Scene”. To this day Lordlazer still smiles at his memories of playing the custom maps in cooperative mode – from UAC Dead to Trinity to the Aliens TC. Such modifications he never thought of until those discoveries came around and then it created an undying thirst that still lasts to this day, a thirst to create. Although Lordlazer never really accomplished anything, as far as creating a map goes, he had fun dreaming.
One other game had struck such imagination, Starcraft. Lordlazer's goal was to create a whole campaign, but he only finished a map and a half (that is long gone by now). The point of him telling you this is to further describe his social network, or rather, lack of. Lordlazer's friend didn’t really want to commit to anything and being the kind of person Lordlazer was, Lordlazer cared more for others than myself, so Lordlazer kept trying to find something that his friends might be interested, attempting to be selfless; now that Lordlazer looks back, he wishes he was selfish enough to care more about himself and actually finish such dreams – sometimes he feels as though he wasted his youth, but he has pretty much overcome such feelings and is continuously looking to the future. Now he is doing something.
[edit] Emulation Scene
While surfing the net, Lordlazer stumbled upon the SNES emulator dubbed ZSNES. He was ecstatic and quickly submersed myself with as many ROMs as he could. Due to being so intoxicated – which he fears that might be the ultimate cause of n00bies – he joined the ZSNES forums and, from what the community claims, played out the role of a n00b…though to this day he doesn't recall acting as such (all he remembers is suggesting a lot of “pointless” features for ZSNES, in the appropriate forum mind you).
To this day Lordlazer can still feel for the n00bs, but understanding can only go so far – the n00b either grows into a beginner or becomes a failure, luckily Lordlazer went the former route. He’d love to discuss what creates a n00b, but then we would be digressing into sociology and perhaps even philosophy and psychology; however, he will finish this digression by saying that he believes the ZSNES community is one of the most unforgiving, because many years ago (after he “matured”) he went back and instead of giving him a second chance they scrutinized him and acted as arrogant bastards (sorry, Lordlazer hate assholes (laughs)).
Although the ZSNES community failed Lorldazer (and he believes themselves), he was pleasantly introduced to Dejap Translations. While taking his “leave”, he found RPGe’s Final Fantasy V English translation and he believes that that is what truly brought his interest into emulation. He then, found Dejap Translations and J2E Translations, loving the experience of playing games that were never released in “the states”. Though it saddens Lordlazer that he couldn’t be a part of the hype back then, this is eventually what lead him to the…
[edit] ROM Hacking Scene
The first hacks that Lordlazer came across were for the Super Mario Brothers (SMB) game. He was very excited with the hacks he saw, never had he seen such a thing. Amongst the hacks he found Strange Mario Brothers (by Acmlm), and thus found his website. His website lead Lordlazer to the Acmlm Message Board community.
At first Lordlazer was skeptical due to his first experience with such a community, but after finding a link to FuSoYa’s website – and being immersed with the powerful Lunar Magic – he found himself needing to ask questions. Being self-promoted to beginner status, he felt as though he could do anything and set off to do just that, using other people’s hacks as inspiration, but more importantly he was trying to do things differently, something that hadn’t been done. Thus came the hack called Mario in Fractious Dimension, and eventually leading him to create an overworld tutorial.
To reiterate, the goal of this hack was to go where no one had gone before. Unfortunately, this sprung up the response from players that this game was too difficult. Although Lordlazer's target audience was definitely not the novice player, he went back and attempted to make the levels a tad easier, all the while still creating new and innovative level designs; however, to his (and he can only hope the communities) misfortune he abandoned the project due to a sudden surge of depression that was brought on due to the (what he assumed at the time) sudden change in the Acmlm community and some unusual family issues (which he hadn’t discerned at the time).
Shortly before Lordlazer left the community, he worked for a few months on converting his previous hack into a new hack, to recycle it (if you will), and focus around the theme of the player controlling a Magi Koopa. Due to too many things happening outside of his digital life, he never could get much progress done and thus attempted to get a group to work on the project with him, which failed due to their skepticism of a group project ever holding grounds. Without much further to say about it, Lordlazer put this hack on ice as well, with Mario’s GFX almost completely changed and a whole new epic story put to rest with the hopes that it will return someday (likely will happy via a homebrew…).
[edit] Lordlazer's New Vision
A lot has changed since those days (aside from his age) and now he consider himself to be quite the mature one amongst the community (proof that a n00b can... develop). Having figured out what career field he is going into and having tackled the family complications up front (not without its price, but alas sometimes sacrifice is needed to pursue one’s dreams…), he now has the self worth (or to be crude, “selfishness”) necessary to do things (almost) always with a benefit for himself: his current major is video game design and expect some great things in the future from him (particularly in the homebrew “department”).
Things to expect from Lordlazer:
Please note that this is not including his truly original ideas in the hopes of owning his own company, which he will, so expect mostly fan-based works.

- with a level editor of course...

[edit] Documents / Tutorials
[edit] SMWiki
Lordlazer has taken it upon himself to create a sense of similarity amongst the pages, to create order with the existing material in a great attempt to bring it to a more professional standard - in other words, he does maintenance to the database. Currently his maintenance has entitled:
- User Profiles
- information boxes
- stub status
- addition to the people category
- ROM Addresses
- organizing them in a table of sorts...
- Aliases
- creating new, and editing existing, redirects and adding them to the category known as Alias.
[edit] Basic Overworld Editing
Due to his focus and enjoyment of overworld editing, he took it upon himself to update the basic overworld editing tutorial with the following additions:
- addition of graphical examples
- corrections of previously written material
- extensions to the already existing topics on overworld editing
- adding completely new topics on overworld editing
Lordlazer has stated that the new example images may be a bit outdated, and said that if there are more up-to-date ones, then anyone may overwrite the current ones with the new ones (as long as it benefits the community).
[edit] Project Alias
Lordlazer was inspired to create this project due to reading a thread on SMW Central. This thread asked its members why they chose their alias over another, which reminded him why he hadn't changed his within the ROM Hacking Community; He didn't change his alias due to not wanting to lose what little reputation that he had. The problem with changing an alias is that those that don't keep up with the latest trends miss out on such information, thus wondering what happened to 'said' user - thus Project Alias was born!
